New York, NY - After a disappointing finish to the 2016 campaign, which never saw the team play to their potential, The NYAC rugby team took a long hard look at themselves in the off-season and feels they made the steps compete

atop the ARP standings this year, We look forward to the tests that lie ahead, as the ARP continues to get stronger and stronger every year.

Where the team may have lacked depth last season, recruiting efforts in the off-season have brought in a plethora of talent to compete for the chance to represent the Winged Foot. Notable additions include PRO Rugby talents Anthony Parry, Jake Turnbull, Harry Bennett, and Alex Hodgkinson, to challenge the veterans, and help guide a crop of talented college graduates highlighted by James Kondrat, Brian McKellar, and Chris Mattina. Last year’s lack of depth has also been sorted with some international flair provided by Ross Deacon, Jack Fitzpatrick and Ollie L’Estrange, brother of longtime former NYAC and USA Eagles Toby L’Estrange. However this group of newcomers will have to compete for time with the veteran leadership of James Denise, Nick DiScala, Al Mcfarland, and Justin Hundley who have over 40 yrs of NYAC experienced combined. Captain James Denise is excited about the upcoming season and said, “I’ve been apart of a some very good teams with the NYAC, and this team has the potential to be up there with the best. USA Eagles Al McFarland and Nate Brakeley bring international experience to a great mix of recruits and veterans”.

The real buzz around the NYAC campfire however, comes as the team welcomes back longtime player, captain and Head Coach Mike Tolkin, who returns to NYAC after his four year tenure as the Head Coach for the USA Eagles. Mike is excited to be back with the team and we are happy to have him. Mick Quinn continues his role as head coach and is joined by Chris Edwards, Dave Katz and Mike Riordan, adding, “I am really excited for the upcoming season. The team has promoted Chris Edwards to Forwards Coach after the departure of Neil McMillan and we have the luxury of having Coach Tolkin onboard. Mike brings a depth of knowledge that is second to none in US Rugby circles.
