The American Rugby Premiership (ARP) is an elite American rugby competition, and the only elite/premiership competition officially sanctioned by USA Rugby. Consisting of the top 5 teams in the Eastern United States, the ARP raises the standard of competition for its members to a level beyond normal Division 1 play. ARP teams have won 12 Division 1/Elite-level national championships since 1979, not including 7s championship events, and all five participants have won at least one national championship at some level of play. Notably, the New York Athletic Club is the reigning USA Rugby Division 1 National Champions (2015), and the Life University Running Eagles won the previous two Division 1 National Championships contested (2013, 2014). The New York Athletic Club also captured two of the last three Rugby Super League championships (2010, 2012). Currently, the ARP's 5 clubs participate in three of the nine largest media markets in the United States.
